At Woolvey we believe it is more than just our logo that is green. We strongly believe in every individual and business taking steps to protect our environment and think seriously about the products we use and the waste we create.
As a secondary market dealer in collectibles you could argue that everything we sell is a recycled product! While it may be a stretch to claim this makes us ‘green’, it demonstrates that we and our customers inherently believe in the value of ‘used’ items.
Packing materials are the primary ‘waste’ product of our business. When sending delicate items through the postal system, protective packaging is essential. We therefore focus on using recycled or recyclable materials, rather than minimizing packaging.
Our standard shipping policy is to use USPS Priority Mail for shipping products. The USPS Priority Mail shipping boxes are made from corrugated cardboard, which is easily recyclable and eligible for most curbside recycling programs. The Priority Mail materials are certified “cradle to cradle”SM (see here for more details).
Whenever possible we will reuse packing materials, such as packing peanuts, bubble-wrap, boxes, Styrofoam (polystyrene) inserts, etc. Clearly the more times something is used before it becomes ‘waste’, the better for the environment.
When we need to acquire new packing materials we always purchase materials that are either already recycled (such as the green polystyrene peanuts), biodegradable materials (such as cornstarch packing peanuts) or materials that can be easily recycled by our customers. We will NEVER buy new products that are destined for a lifetime in a landfill site!
Like all other companies, we also use paper. However, we try to minimize our use of paper by making good use of technology. Unless legally required to hold paper copies, we retain all company records in electronic format and make use of the latest web, email, communication and document sharing technologies to reduce overall paper usage. We always purchase paper obtained from sustainable forests (see here for more details). We are currently using HammerMill paper, which is 100% SFI certified. This effectively means it is derived only from forests that are replanted and actively consider wildlife conservation issues.
If you have any packaging materials that are not eligible for your local recycling program, most shipping and packing companies (like UPS) will usually accept reusable materials. Alternatively, you might find the following links of interest:
